The Logistic Department is an integral part of any organization and involves managing, planning and controlling the flow of goods, information, transportation etc. It is the responsibility of the logistic department to ensure that the entire process of logistics is maintained in accordance with the objectives of the business at an economical cost. The organizations mostly prefer professional logistic supervisors for handling logistic services. The job of a logistic supervisor is extremely hectic and comes with lot of responsibilities. This job is tough and sometimes may require working outdoor, late nights and early in the mornings as well.

  • Taking care of the transportation issues
  • Dealing meticulously with maintenance of security, access, video control, office stationary and supplies on regular basis
  • Leading and directing the work force
  • Communicating effectively among the relevant departments and ensure production schedules within the deadlines
  • Taking care of inbound and outbound logistics and also inventory management
  • Upgrading the logistic process like replacement, manual and electronic statistics interchange systems, order management
  • Providing daily reports to senior management accurately
  • Collaborating with other senior managers from different departments and discuss new strategies for inventory and distribution management
  • Reviewing daily routine works and take necessary action where required
  • Handling maintenance related issues meticulously
  • Practicing and ensure that all the polices and procedures are being followed
  • Providing work related follow ups and feedback to the team members on daily basis
  • Arranging for maintenance and repair work wherever required
To work as a logistic supervisor one needs to have a BA/BS in logistics or related field. Some companies also require a master's degree in logistics. Mostly 2-5 years of supervisory experience is preferred however, some organizations don't require any prior experience. An experienced candidate is always preferred over the naive candidate.

People who apply for logistic supervisor job should have one of the following certificates. Certificate holders are given preference over those with no certificates:

  • Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport
  • Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport
  • Certification in Humanitarian Logistics
  • Certification in Humanitarian Supply Chain Management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong Organizational Skills, conflict management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate strong time management skills, prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency (MS Office), SAP and WMS, spreadsheet software
  • Ability to build up and train subordinates
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good with numbers
  • Should be able to manage stressful situations as the work environment for this job is very fast paced
  • Should be a good planner and make quality decisions
  • Should be good at problem solving
  • Should be able to prepare reports and submit it one timely basis to the higher management
  • Should know about requisition generation for supplies etc
  • Person with the knowledge of Oracle can have an added advantage over others
A logistic supervisor may work as a full-time and part-time employee. There are some companies who look out for temporary Logistic supervisors. Depending upon the availability one can opt for any of the suitable option.

Logistic supervisor's salary depends on the experience and qualification. Big companies pay higher. The average salary of a logistic supervisor ranges from $45,000 and $65,000 per year. This range is for full-time employment. Some companies hire part-time Logistic supervisor and pay them on weekly basis. The average salary ranges from $423.00 - $430 per week and the part-time Logistic supervisor has to work 40 hours per week.

There is a huge demand for dynamic logistic supervisors in the market as it's a job that needs responsibility and commitment. Over a period of time one can be gradually promoted to senior levels like logistic manager or director administrative and logistics etc.

The Telecommunication Industry, Chemical Industry, Food and Beverages, Tobacco industry and many others have great demand for logistic supervisors.
